This course is designed to train men and women with no previous knowledge in the industry for entry-level employment in the field of security systems installation.

The course provides comprehensive teacher-led instruction in basic security installer topics and skill sets as well as hands-on experience.

After successful completion of the program, students will be prepared for employment in the security industry as a beginning technician or beginning field installer.

The technician or field installer is someone who installs, maintains, repairs, replaces, tests and services the operation of security systems in accordance with industry standards and codes, and local, city and state regulations.

 Who Should Enroll 

Attendance in the Electronic Security Systems Installer Program would be beneficial to:

  • Youth (18+) looking for a technical career in an expanding industry.
  • Workers seeking a new career.
  • Workers furloughed in mid-life and seeking or training for more stable employment.
  • Individuals seeking skills for a 2nd job.
  • Companies who want to train their own entry level employees.

 Note:  Fingerprinting and background checks are standard requirements for employment in the industry

Course Description

Topics Include: Burglar Alarm Systems, Fire Alarm Systems, Closed Circuit Security Camera Systems, CCTV, Access Control Systems, Codes & Standards, Electrical Theory, Test Equipment, Safety, Low Voltage Cabling, Conduits, Construction Materials/Methods, Wireless Communication, Site Surveys and Planning. 

Program Eligibility

A high school diploma or GED is required for admission to the program.  Those with overseas diploma equivalents must speak to the program coordinator.

Additional Prerequisites: Normal color vision and a valid driver’s license are essential.  Familiarity with small hand and power tools is helpful and the ability to work on a ladder is a must. 

Tuition & Expenses

Installment Payments:  Tuition can be paid in two installments: at registration and at the beginning of the fourth week.  There is no college-based financial aid available for this program.

MasterCard
, Visa, purchase orders and vouchers from private and public agencies are accepted for payment.

Applications for admission are accepted at the Continuing Studies Center, or by mail at NYCCT, 300 Jay St, Brooklyn, NY 11201, Attn: Continuing Studies Center.  Phone registration can be accomplished with a MasterCard or Visa card only – (718) 552-1170. 

Individuals should apply early, as there is limited space available in this program.

Career Services: Students and recent graduates of this program are eligible for placement assistance through the Division’s Career Services staff.  This includes resume writing and job search assistance.
