PIONEERS OF THE NEW YORK ALARM INDUSTRY

WAS...  THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2015!

MBFAA's second Pioneers of the New York Alarm Industry is scheduled for Thursday night, October 29, 2015, at Terrace On The Park, Flushing Meadows Park, Queens, New York City.

Every profession, every industry, had its beginnings somewhere, sometime, and by someone. We call these people pioneers. The pioneers of the alarm industry date back to the 1850’s.

While the pioneers of the 1850’s are not around any longer and we can only read about them, the pioneers of the modern (post World War II) era alarm industry in New York are mostly alive and well.

It is the Metropolitan Burglar and Fire Alarm Association of New York’s (MBFAA) intention to, once again, bring together these pioneers of the metropolitan New York alarm industry at an industry dinner on Thursday, October 29, 2015, in New York City. Why? Because the MBFAA is New York’s oldest incorporated alarm association with some of the oldest companies and oldest members in the industry.

This event, which was first held in October of 2011, recognizes and honors those pioneers of the New York metropolitan area alarm industry who paved the way for all of us in the industry today.

Back in October of 2011, over 150 alarm dealer professionals, distributors, manufacturers, and those who have left the industry through retirement or to pursue other careers, attended MBFAA's Pioneers of the New York Alarm Industry dinner. The evening was highlighted by the presentation of awards and certificates to those industryites who have been in the industry for at least 35 years.

Master of Ceremonies for the evening long time industry success motivator and sales trainer Ron Davis. Ron is with Davis Mergers and Acquisitions Group, Inc., DMAG (AKA "the Graybeards"), the industry's leading business brokering firm. His first book is due out in October/November. Ron is credited with well over 1,000 presentations within the industry. He can trace his ancestry to New York, graciously agreed to be our Master of Ceremonies.

Stanley Oppenheim of DGA took center stage with the history of the alarm industry from the days of ADT in New York City in the 1800s to modern day with the marking of the technological advancements that have brought the industry to its current level of professionalism and abilities. Stanley is invited to educate and update us on the history of the New York alarm industry.

Ray Adams, of Owl Burglar Alarm, Mutual Central Alarm Services, and past president of Holmes Protection, was introduced and told the group about some of the early days and finished with several anecdotes about the business.

Ken Kirschenbaum, Esq, spoke about the laws since the start of MBFAA in 1976 to the present day. Ken will update us on some of the current issues facing the alarm industry such as electronic signatures and CCTV around nude swimming pools.

Our final speaker was one of the cofounders of MBFAA, Gerry Geller, who spoke of the first meetings in a diner in Hicksville, NY.

Dinner honorees and award winners were introduced and invited up for a description of their roles as pioneers in the alarm industry. Length of "service" to the alarm industry ranged from 35 years to 67 years of service.

The oldest alarm company present was AFA Protective Systems, Inc., who can trace their history back to 1873, and was represented by Mr. Robert Kleinman.

A special table was set up in the rear of the dining room which featured some memorabilia from the earliest days of the alarm industry such as ADEMCO and CHRISTY Industries, including an original audio tape of one of Ron Davis's early seminars.

So what's in store for Thursday, October 29, 2015?

First of all, I want to make it clear that this is an industry-wide event for and of the whole alarm industry in the New York City Metropolitan area. That's NYC, Long Island, Westchester County and Northern New Jersey.

This is not just a MBFAA member event. You don't have to be a member to attend or receive recognition.

Back in 2011 we had 150+ attendees. For 2015 I booked the room for 200+!

We lost some well-known members of the alarm industry since then and it's time again to recognize and hear from those pioneers that made our industry what it is today. If you are a dealer, a manufacturer, a distributor, or even in a supportive alarm industry role, it's your chance to be recognized (certificates and/or plaques to those in the industry 35 years or more) or to pay honor to those who are the true pioneers of the alarm industry.

Special recognition for the 10 oldest individuals (not biological age but chronicled history) in the alarm industry in attendance.

Special recognition for the 10 oldest alarm companies (dealers) in attendance.

Special recognition for the 10 oldest manufacturers, and/or distributors in attendance.

Special recognition for those who have passed since our last Pioneers Dinner.

Additional information and "Pioneers" forms will be available on our website at www.mbfaa.com.

Online dinner reservations can be made with a few clicks of your mouse at WWW.MBFAA.COM.

Discounts for member companies and group tables available.

Be prepared to smile a lot, hug a lot, even kiss a lot, and maybe even shed a tear, because you'll see once again see old-time friends, and maybe an old-time rival, who holds a special place in your heart and memory.

A lot of people regretted missing the opportunity in 2011, so... do it in 2015!
